Okay, I have to make this quick because my 3yo is running around. Here is a the short version. My husband cheated on me, left me in Oct, and is now filing for divorce and fighting me on custody. (He also cheated on his 2 other wives and children. I know I am an idiot for believing him.) We have 2 children, 1 and 3 years old. I told him I did not want a divorce because I work from home and do not have any benefits, plus I want to go back to school for my RN. He is also asking (in the divorce) for a property split. We had already agreed in Oct that we would split the bills and he can take anything. He already refused the snowmobile, TV, and surround system. I am terrified that I am going to be stuck with a $24,000 loan! (We really have no equity on the house as we just bought it 4 years ago and took out an equity loan already.) As far as the children go, right now he is visiting here, but I am waiting to see what he is contesting about that. Supposedly, the place he is living is a trailer that has been sitting on the property for a while and has holes in the walls from mice/rats (?) and the addition on it is a dirt floor....(My house is a mansion compared to that!)
I am meeting with my attorney in a couple of hours, but if anyone has any other suggestions I would appreciate! I want to make sure I have all my bases covered when I meet with the attorney.I am probably going to fight the divorce, but not really sure if I should bother....
Thank you very, very much!
Michele

I am not sure why you would fight the "divorce".

As far as the divorce, I really had wanted to keep my insurance for as long as possible. That was the main reason. I also was afraid to get stuck with all the bills. Also, my concern was him taking the children to his residence. I could care less if he lives there, but am worried about the children.
Thanks for your reply! I am going to copy the questions to take with me.

One thing you could do is have it written in the divorce papers that he is to maintain all insurances, health, dental, life, vision etc until the divorce is final.

I feel much better now, although now that I have filed for full custody, he has contested it and is also filing for full custody. I have no idea why, since he abanonded us, actually letting me think he was dead for 2 days before I finally got ahold of him. Anyway, my atty was not too concerned over the divorce and said that I didn't need to get into specifics yet, but he does need to keep me on his insurance until it is finalized.
Thanks again!
Michele
