for me, it's been important to try and come up with new family traditions since the separation and divorce. So

i love the idea of non-materialistic gifts/traditions. i also established a lot of traditions with DS. one of the important things i learnt to do was to go ALONE to all kind of *things* = i know so many people who don't like to go alone, or just with their kids, because they don't have a 'husband'. so i go alone or with DS to family/social things.

I think i told this story here -but anyway, DS and I left my ex and moved to a different home. when we left, i had taken a shower curtain that ex had once bought (it was still in the package, he bought a bunch of the same curtain at Kmart, and this was the same design that we had in the house that we live din with him). i hated the design, but it was 'free' and money was so tight. anyway, he dragged the actual divorce on and on and on ---- and on the day that the divorce was finally granted, i went into a household goods store and bought a new curtain and matching rug and changed them on that day. it was just a great feeling.

I like the coupon idea. Especially with four children. I'm already trying to wrap my head around the holidays for this year, LOL.
My youngest son is an extremely picky eater. So now that stbx is out of the house and no longer contributing to this I started a nightly game for us. I bought a twister game and we have four items on our plates. Always at least one new thing and one thing I know he will eat. We take turns spinning and trying the food that coincides with the color. Whoever tries all the foods first picks a prize out of the basket. He was slow to start but now he is very excited to play and we have gotten him to try beans, steak, tuna and so many other things.
Also, I have started having us all sit down and eat together. STBX was believed dinner time was for eating not talking so THAT has changed now. I really like it and I think the kids do to.
