OMG mosquito bites!

My darling ex-husband seems to think that there are bugs living inside the house. He claims that there were when he was living in the hosue 2 years ago, and that he got bitten up alive. No one else in the house did when he said he did, and at the time he was grilling outside every night. Now, our son has mosquito bites a lot lately. But he has been outside, and he had him outside for about 4 hours the other evening playing in the grass ... he seems to think that the bites would have showed up instantly ... that was Saturday. Today he has several bites .. on his arms, face, and hands. He picks him up from school today and i Know he's going to call me bitching about the bites .. and telling me that i need to bug bomb the house. . . and that he'll call CPS and insist that the bugs are in the house. HE did tell me he's going to call my dad and tell him that something has to be done because Clayton is being eaten alive in the house ... and tell him that it HAS to be fumigated or else. or else what i have no idea. I'm not protecting our son my having him getting bitten by bugs. Yes. I am yet again a bad mother.

Oh, and it's because of the "flea ridden dogs". Of course the dogs live in the back yard .. hardly ever come inside, and it's mosquito's that he's being bitten by ..

Buy mosqito repellent today. Then if Ex calls to complain, then you can have a positive answer, show that you care and are taking action. It might also be a good thing to just rule out fleas (since they can come into the house on child's clothes), by getting a safe spray and using it under the child's bed while the child is out of the house. We have indoor cats, and almost never any fleas. But the two times I did see one was in my DD's room. I HATE chemicals and poisons, I would have to be desperate to use an exterminator, but there are safe products that can serve as a deterrent. I would rather just drive the fleas away than see my child suffer an asthma attack from sleeping in a poison room.

Show the child how to use mosquito repellent properly (read all directions) or apply it for him yourself when he is going to go out. Many people (including me) swear by the B vitamins to repel mosquitos. When I take these vitamins, I can sit right next to someone else, and only they get bitten. Does your son take a vitamin supplement? There are also little electronic buzzers kids can wear.

I plan on buying repellant, but in the meantime, I know (even if he doesn't) that it does not make me a bad mom because he has mosquito bites. He picks him up in less than an hour. I'm waiting for the call telling me that he's suffering and being eaten alive and what a bad mommy I truly am.

Just another side note, if you give your kids garlic drops, it will keep the mosquitos away as well.

Update: so when ex picked him up yesterday apparently they told him that he wasn't quite himself yesterday. He didn't want to play, this and that. . . and also asked about his bites. Asked if he hadn't had a good night sleep, etc. Then ex proceded to tell me that meant that they were on the verge of calling DFS because they are suspecting neglect. Told me that he will be calling the school today at 2:30 to see if he had a good day, and if not we need to get to the bottom of why not. And he is going to call them becasue and I quote "I can't trust getting a straight answer from YOUR side" .. and then proceded to tell me that his Mom wanted him to call DFS yesterday because of his bites, and that he said no, and she said that if he came with bites again that SHE would call DFS. Of course she won't call DFS on her own daughter, who has 2 girls (8 & 16) and are living in a house with bad pipes, no hot water (no heat for a few weeks last winter), where the dad (who is currently in jail, but will probably be out this week) is a crack addict and they have had to bar their door with a refrigator before to keep people coming for money in .. and they've found drug paraphanaila around the house before. No, no. She won't call on that, but she'll call on me because I ruined her son's life and because her grandson is obviously being neglected.

Hugs, klo. I'm sorry your ex is being so unreasonable. It sounds to me that it's more likely that it is a mosquito bite or something similar. My cats have gotten fleas a few times over the years, and whenever the fleas have bitten me it's been on the torso or legs. I'm allergic, so the bites swell up and resemble a hive or mosquito bite. I think you'd be a "bad mom" if you fumigated a house and exposing your child to chemicals when you don't even know that's necessary. It is possible the bites could be from fleas - if the fleas were on the upper part of the bed they could bite the face and arms while you're sleeping. And you can have fleas in the house and not know it, as only 5% of your flea problem is visible fleas. Usually the best way to tell is to examine the pet for flea dirt or fleas - the stomach is often a good place to look. Fleas on pet makes it likely there are fleas in the house. If you are dealing with fleas, I've found the most effective way to rid yourself of them is to give your pets Advantage, Revolution or something similar from the vet. Fleas bite pet, fleas die. Then 28-30 days later when the next batch hatches, they bite the pet and die before they get a chance to lay new eggs and voila - no more fleas.
