I just got word that my father's girlfriend, who is like a mother to me, had a brain anurism last night. She is not doing well at all and my father is a wreck.

He just moved to Virginia and has no family down there. I need to be there with him.

She is not doing well at all.

Did they find a brain aneurysm or did it burst? My mom had one and it was 6 long months and consultation with 10 doctors before she found one that would operate. The operation was in April 1999 and it was successful, although now she has seizures due to scar tissue in her brain, that is controlled by medication. They always told my mom if it burst before they could fix it surgically, she'd be dead instantly. Is your father's girlfriend concious? What do the doctors say?

My dad said that he came home from work yesterday and found her seizing ( sp ) on the floor. He said that by the time they got to the hospital in ambulance that she was comatose. Dad said he doesn't know if she even knew he was there. She has had BAD headaches for years, atleast since I have known her wich is 5 years. I know that is a symptom but her doctor here did not diagnose anything other than "sinus problems". I dont know much about this stuff.

I am thinking it burst. They said that the next 3 days are most important IF she comes out of the coma. I talked to him at 7am this morning I am not sure if anything changed since then. He said he would call me. Dad did say she was "stroking" on the way to the hospital.

I have this terrible feeling. It seems so surreal. My dad is just a mess.

I am so sorry. It does sound bad. What the doctors told my mom is that if it burst, it would feel like a really bad headache and then she'd die. Since your dad's girlfriend is alive, it does sound like if there is some hope. The headaches she has has in the past might not be related to the aneurysm. They thought my mom could have had the aneurysm for up to 10 years before they found it and she never had headaches. They found her's completely by accident, because she was having some memory problems and they did a brain scan of some sort. Nine doctors told her it was hopeless, one doctor said it was no problem and operated and now she's fine. I hope they have some good news for your father soon.

I don't know if she is alive or if they are keeping her alive. I didn't ask that many questions and just let my dad tell me what he could. My dad is only 48 years old, Karen is older, but only by a couple of years.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers and for sharing your story. It gives me some hope. If she passes it will kill my father. He is all alone down there.
