I would go get one or two free consultations from divorce lawyer(s) to see their opinion on your probable rights regarding how much visitation he would get with your kids.

Dog,
Hi. Please call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233). You and your children are victims of domestic abuse and violence. Your husband needs help and you need help to remove yourself from this abusive environment. Please call the number listed above. The people who answer the phone can help you determine what to do, where to go, what to take and how to enlist help. Do it today.

You need to take a stand for yourself and your children. I'd encourage you to call the hotline and talk to someone. His treatment of your children (smacking them, etc.) is also child abuse. You have to take responsibility for protecting them. Get them out of there! If you don't, and your children suffer physical abuse and you don't take action, you could be reported to the state authorities who will remove your children from your home.

So, pick up the phone and start making calls. You need help to escape so you can think and be free of fear for yourself and your kids.

Good luck,
