Question About New Message Board Format

Anyone know how to get the new message board format to show the threads that have new posts? Since the change there is no obvious way to tell which threads have been added to except to remember who last posted in the thread and when. Also, the format doesn't arrange the threads with those with the most recent posts first. Any suggestions on how to get back to that or is that just not possible now?

If you go to your profile, and my preferences, then chose the tab "Edit my preferences" , and make sure there is a check mark in the box "Sort topics by time of most recent post "
