Hi Ladies,

I told my husband to file because I was tried of everything, and this time wanted him to actually file for the divorce. He lives in a different town from us but same state. When he files and its a non contested divorce, what do I have to do. I have not ever gotton further then me doing the papers and then him saying he needs more time. So will I have to appear in court even if it is non contested. How would I do all the child support stuff without getting a lawyer.. Thanks for any help... Take care Rockclover

I wouldn't do it without a lawyer, ESPECIALLY not child support. Our divorce was very amicable, but his attorney tried to do all kinds of weird things to my income and expenses to make the child support hundreds of $$ higher in my ex's favor. It's just a calculation, but there are all kinds of ways to manipulate income amounts and affect the cs significantly. You need an attorney at least to look over everything and make sure you are getting a fair deal. It doesn't mean you will have to contest anything as long as his attorney is fair, but it will protect you in case him or his attorney is not.

Whether you have to go to court or not depends on the state. I live in PA and neither of us had to appear in court, in some states it's mandatory.
