Remember "Parenthood" w/ Steve Martin?

That was a great movie, not only for it's comic value, but because it had some great lines and lessons.
The best one was from Tod, the seemingly loser teenage loser boyfriend when he told his future mother-in-law..... "You know, Mrs. Buckman, you need a license to buy a dog, to drive a car - hell, you even need a license to catch a fish. But they'll let any butt-reaming a-hole be a father."
Parenthood is not intuitive. It's not something you can really just do without too much thought, like breathing. Parenthood isn't a way to get love or affection. Tod was right.... why doesn't this country require a parenting class before having children????

Gooooooood question!

It's interesting how parenting classes while you are pregnant are optional.... but are mandatory when divorcing.
Something is seriously wrong with this.... I mean, who couldn't benefit from at least a refresher course (for those who think they already know everything)?????

You have to take a parenting class to adopt through the foster care system. And to adopt privately, a social worker evaluates you and they run an extensive background check. I was happy to do it and thought at the time not a bad idea for everyone!
I have to rent Parenthood again - what a great flick!
Ain't that a hoot that you're allowed to give birth to your own kids and abuse the heck out of them, but you've got to be one of the most upstanding members of society??
Double standard. If I was going to give a baby up for adoption, I'd want to make sure that the adoptive parents were mentally stable and ready to BE parents...... But I certainly didn't get that kind of screening before I got pregnant. All I got was a few tests for STDs!!

*LMAO*
So perhaps the pre-divorce parenting classes are so that the judge knows how much protection HE needs to use.
