Removing a child from the home

What condition does a house have to be in before DFS will consider removing a child from the home? Unclendliness? Piles of paper stacked on stairs (although not terribly high), trash on the porch (just until trash day), closets full of crap (old clothes, etc) ... if DFS did a home inspectio and saw any of these things, would they remove a toddler from the home? Would they give someone time to get the house "up to standards?" ... any ideas on this would be appreciated.

I would guess it's a judgement call of the CPS person, but in general I think they'd be looking to see if the home is a danger to the occupants, if there is food and clean dishes, if the child is clean and has a clean place to sleep and play, etc. I don't think you lose your children for being a slob, but if your slobiness is to such an extreme that there is rotting food and a child could be injured or worse, or it's so filthy that it's a health hazard, that could lead to a child being removed.

Well other than the occasional unidentified left-over in the fridge, and the dust bunnies that sometimes collect in the corners, there is nothing that is a danger to the child. he has a room to himself, with a bed, clean sheets, and a clean place to play -- well depending on how many toys are strewn about it's clean!
