Slight setback

We have been trying to handle our divorce on our own. I called the courthouse to make sure we have the proper documents and they refused to answer me. SO I called a lawyer to get a consultation to go over what we had much cheaper the paying the lawyer for everything. Well when he heard we were military he started to ask questions about residency and I found out that although we have lived here 2 years we DO NOT satisfy the residency requirements. I am moving in May and will have to wait till I have lived in that state for 6 months and file then. Thank goodness we are doing this all amicably and he is more than willing to pay me what the child support is by the guidlines here until we can file. Besides he will be out of the country most of the 6 months. I hope this does not turn out to be a nightmare. Thins were going so smoothly.

That stinks about the residency requirements. =( Glad to hear things are amicable. Don't know if it will make you feel any better, but here you have to be separated a year to get divorced. When I first heard that I thought it sounded like forever, but the time went by quickly. (In fact, we were separated for almost 2 years before anything was filed, and nearly 3 by the time things are final, but that's another story, lol).

Although its a slight setback.... sounds like you have the amicable part to be thankful for. Thank goodness!

Everything will work out and remember, everything happens for a reason.
