The bank called yesterday to say that the appraisal came in on our house and it was high (in fact, if I thought I could get that much now, I might sell it right away

I'm glad that things are moving forward for you and that your DH finally will agree to divide up the bills.

Of course he does not have an apt, because he doesn't do anything for himself.

Hey I was curious, my H and I had been married almost 27 years, he was in the Army for over 21 of those years, can you give me some idea of my half of the pension would be?? Ive done some reading on it, and apparently just listing it on the marital settlement agreement isn't enough you have to have the lawyer send another form in, and I lost the paper so I don't remember what it was called. Can a mediator help with this? Or is it best to find a lawyer who is familiar with military pensions?? My H works for the post office and is buying into his retirement through them, I'M wondering how that will affect his pension? Is it all rolled into the Postal....Federal Pension?? It's a shame you stbx didn't realize all he was going to lose before he screwed up huh? I'M afraid mine doesn't have a clue either, IM not really trying to screw him over, but I'M looking out for number 1 now and our kids, I wont have any health insurance when I retire, and he will..I wonder about social security? are we entitled to half that too?? Am I missing any thing else?? I want this to hurt him in some way and by getting him financially IM sure it will....I'M also trying to gt him to take the house I want to refinance in his name, pay joint bills and split whatevers left. IM afraid he might have the last laugh on that one because hes buying Harleys and getting credit cards, so I hope he doesnt mess up his credit too much and not be able to afford the house..UGH what a mess they've got us into!! Take Care keep us informed! ~Mary~

I believe if you've been married to him for the full 20 years you're entitled to 1/2 of the military pension.

Exactly Justice! I'm a mom--I don't get to whine, not do stuff and procrastinate--they revoke that card the day you have

Hi Thanks for your reply! I was wondering were you both able to sit down together and fill out the marital settlement agreement? Or did you fill out your part and give it to him to fill out his?? So what help is mediation if you've both filled out the paperwork? Did you not come to an agreement on some things?? I don't think I qualify for Champus..he was 15 years active duty and spent a little over 5 in the National Guard. He didn't retire..he got a severance pay after the 15 years, this was during the draw down when they were eliminating alot of the combat arms, he got out while they were offering a severance package. Anyway he is buying into the retirement at the post office, which is federal. well I wish you luck today, sounds like you've got it together and are anxious to get it over with, as IM sure I will be. Yes I had mentioned to him how many times I stood by him thru 27 years, and hes so quick to throw it all away...I just don't get it and it really hurts that hes turned into that, maybe one day he will find that honor and integrity again..thanks Again! Hang in there! ~Mary~

By saying that he thinks he'll get 1/2 credit on the mortgage, is this what he means?

The military pension would be separate from the post office pension.
