someone trying to break in

Last night I did have to call the police because there is a TRO against my STBX and he drove by here about 12:30am which is about what time he should get home from work. I saw his car and he has a very obvious car. He has a silver car with altezza taillights (special ordered) and a performance exhaust (its loud). SO I called the police and they said they would patrol the area a little bit closer. I live on a one way street with two houses and nothing else. He lives on the main road running through the town and he wouldn't have to be on this street.

So I put one of DD's toys away near the window. I made sure the windows were locked and headed to bed. I went to get DD's toy back out this afternoon and the screen was halfway out of the window and the window was cracked. Someone tried breaking in last night because the window didn't look like that when I went to bed.

I'm really scared. It times like this I wish I owned a hand gun. If someone does manage to get in, its really scary to think I can't protect myself. Although if someone manages in the house I can always run into the room my son sleeps in, lock myself and the kids in, and call the police because for some reason the people who lived here before my mom put a dead bolt on that door.

I guess what must have happened was they were trying to break in and they saw the cops coming so they high tailed it out of here.

Stephie, did you report the attempted break-in? Whether it's your stbx or not, the police need to know and they need to inspect the scene. It's really important. Someone wants access to your house. They may try again and they may succeed. It's nice that you have that safe room, but it's not enough. Take care of yourself.

How frightening!

If you have not already do so, I agree with the poster who suggested reporting this. Maybe they will stop by to check on you.

I, personally, am scared to own a gun, but how about a dog? Do you have one who would bark at noises near the house? Maybe a can of Mace as well.

Sending you thoughts of safety...

YIKES!!! You can get window/door alarms at any hardware store, they are really cheap. They are just little magnetic things that you put on the window/door and the frame. When the magnetic field is interrupted (window/door opens) it sets off the alarm.
