We are nearing the end of our amicable mediation . I wanted to see what others had asked for/received in terms of Spousal Support.

Can some of you share the terms of your own spousal support?

Any comments are most appreciated.

HI Clarice,

I was married 13 years and didn't ask for spousal support... so I really don't have much advice for ya except that if you have children, you want to get as much as you can termed "child support" because child support isn't taxable income to you, but spousal support would be.

I also think that nowdays spousal support is not as common as it once was, so the terms can be anything you you two agree upon, or a judge decides is fair for your situation.

I'll share mine...I was divorced in 2004...I receied $2200.00 a month in spousal support for 36 months and 1800.00 a month for child support. In hindsight I should have fought for more of that to be considered "child support", but I didn't know any better at the time. I was married for 11 years with two children and had been a SAHM for 8 years while my X made a very comfortable living.
