STBx & I had our session with DS's counselor today re: parenting issues. I got here a bit late, so Colleen (the counselor) and STBX were discussing his extreme reluctance to continue DS on his ADD meds, even though the meds are working, and all of DS's health care professionals agree that it is helping him.

Anyway... I mentioned that I thought STBX and DS were very similar, personality-wise. Colleen asked STBX what he was like as a child, and STBX says, "OH, I WAS PRETTY 'JUMPY'". DUH. He is utterly clueless.

STBX also said that DS doesn't act like himself when he's on meds-- that when he's on the meds, DS is ADD symptomatic, basically. Colleen came right out and said that it was contrary to what everyone else has reported, and that she didn't know how to respond to what STBX was saying. I reported that DS and I were at my mom's for the entire weekend, with DS on his meds, no diet sodas (Aspartame and DS DO NOT agree), taking melatonin before bed, and DS was wonderfully behaved. He doesn't just have ADD, he has a huge problem with impulse control, and the meds help him to refrain from cutting the lamp cords to pieces, and sticking screwdrivers into light sockets. He never got in trouble once when we were at Gramma's, and he was obedient, and helpful... no hint of the zombie-like behavior that is evident in kids who are over-medicated.

The upshot of it is that STBX is going to give DS his meds, and he'll give him the melatonin at night. Oh, and STBX kept contradicting himself-- nothing new here, but he told Colleen that he (STBX) falls asleep early all the time, and DS goes to sleep early at his place, but 2 minutes before that, STBX said that he wakes up and DS is still up watching TV at 11 p.m. - 12 a.m.

The good news is that, hopefully, EX will give DS the meds.

I always caught myself telling EX SO when he contradicted himself.... it drove me NUTS!

I'm just sitting back, listening, and watching him contradict himself. It is being documented by professionals, so I just let him talk and talk and talk. :-D
