R, the BEST thing you are doing for Averey is letting her know that it's NOT okay to be treated like that. That's part of the reason I left XH.... and one of the things I struggle with as he dates and remarries. BUT..... the example I'm setting in my friendships and the talking (like you did with Averey) is KEY to getting these girls strong self-esteem so that they don't make the same mistakes we did! It's a good lesson, though a hard one, to learn that your parent isn't perfect, and is, in fact, a jerk.
*hug* I'm thinking of you.

What an arse.
Rebecca,
Alas, it sounds like he's still trying to get back at you through your daughter. (Hence the comments about how could "mommy" let her go to school looking like that, etc.") He's still trying to lash out at you and he's still trying to use Avery to get to you. What a dope!

Thank you.
I agree. Someone told me that my pointing out to Averey, the things he said, will only make her MORE aware of the negative things he says.
I *totally* agree! I LOVE when she comes home from art class covered in clay or paint, or dirty from teh playground. She is a KID.
Rebecca, Mom to Averey, 2/8/00, Kibo, Sana & Zuri too!
I gotta tell you, I thought of you tonight over dinner!
I took the girls to our local pub tonight for dinner (they've never been to *horrors* a BAR and have been asking to see it) and as we were sitting there, I realized that Gracie had on a shirt that was too small and pants that were too short. She was at my parents house last night and all day today, but I asked her why she was wearing that particular outfit and she said, "Dad likes me in this. Gram said it was too small." I flinched internally, but then started thinking about all the clothes that he buys her that just barely fit and definitely don't fit after a couple washings and a few weeks of growth. Rosie likes her clothes big, thank goodness! After their week with him, their nails are never cut, their ears are never cleaned, they never use body lotion so they're all dry, and most of the time, the clothes that they have on are too small.
But SHEESH! I've never said anything to them like that! Well, maybe I've asked if Dad has nail clippers, or asked if they want to go to Bath and Body Works to buy their favorite lotions to have at Dad's house, but they say they have clippers and lotion. He just doesn't care about that stuff for them (he's PERFECTLY coiffed, to the point of looking a bit, well, you know.)
Anyhoo, I did think about you and Taz, and I felt bad that I ever thought things similar to what Taz said to Ave...... I'm gonna keep it to my INSIDE voice from now on.
If I can..... I'm still feeling the effects of calling the girlfriend trashy to his face with what I THOUGHT was my inside voice!
R, Just keep up the good work....
