Upset about son

My son (4 1/2 years old) has been having bad temper tantrums at home lately. Yesterday I received a note from his pre-school teacher stating he has been aggressive the last few days and yesterday had one of his friends down on the floor, chocking him/her. This is not like my son at all. I talked to him but I don't know if it got through. I just can't believe this is happening. The teacher's assistant this moring told me he also refused to tell his friend sorry.
What is interesting is that this behavior seems to have increased since he started seeing his dad(supervised visits). He gets excited when I tell him he is going to see his dad. The supervisor has said things were going well. My son was very quiet with the supervisor in the room so last week I asked if there was another way to observe them to see if that would make a difference. She decided to sit just outside the doorway and my son did interact more with his dad then.
Help! I don't know what to do.

Hi there... it's a stressful situation when a child has to visit a parent in a strange place... for a limited time... with strange people around.

My 2 of my 3 children are having temper issues since my husband left. I think they are just angry and frustrated because they don't understand why someone woud leave. Counseling may help your child, but just try not to let him see how anxiuos you may be feeling about his visits with his father. When he goes to visit maybe make sure he has a 'snuggly' with him, whatever it may be, so he still feels connected to home and a little secure? As far as the school , just keep them informed of what he is going through.......as adults most of us are pretty angry, I guess our kids feel it too.......
