I am currently going through a divorce and have custody of our 11 year old son. We live out of state and I am looking for any information in regards to my minor child flying alone for visitation. Thanx

The airline will charge you extra money for minor children flying alone. They have excellent programs now (much better than when my kids were little). You check them in and you go with them to the gate. Usually they will board them first. You meet them at the gate on the other end. Both parents need to be involved in the process and usually the court orders that you split the extra fee for unaccompanied minors.

He can fly alone but it costs about $75 on top of the fare. My dughter has been doing it for years now. The biggest issue is getting them on to flights that have one stop or no stops at all. you have to check in as if you are flying as well so that you can get him to the gate--the same when he returns so that you can pick him up from the gate. it's a hassle, but it saves you from having to drive long distances etc.
