the rings from my first marriage were verrrrrry inexpensive but i always felt that they came from the heart because my first husband and i didn't have any money and he saved up to buy me the ring. anyway, they are not worth anything to sell them and i am saving them for my son -

I was so furious when my ex moved out of the house to be with his lover that I pulled my wedding ring off and flushed it down the toilet. I wish I hadn't done that now, although I don't know what I would have done with it.

My friend gave all the jewelry that her ex had given her to her daughter, including her ring. Her theory was that she no longer had anything in common with the man, but her daughter did.

The wedding ring is still sitting at the auction house waiting for a buyer. It has been there 6 months now. The 6000 diamond x used to brag about was only worth 600 at best. Obviously it is worth less than that if nobody is buying it. x got it for free from grandmother so actually only the cost of 14karat skinny gold band came out of his pocket. It was rather embarrassing at the auction house (one of the world's most famous, so they were definitely not cheating me) to find that it was a piece of junk. One whole karat of coal on a gold band. I won't take it back from the auction house because it serves no purpose to me. I wouldn't save it for my son because I am sure he would find something much more nice when he starts thinking of marriage.

We didn't have kids so I left it there for him when I moved out, I left all 3-rings and the house keys, haven't been back, it's been 3-months and I signed the divorce papers Friday Nov 4 best day of my life. He can keep those cheap rings I don't want anything he gave me.

I gave my back to my ex the night he told me he "didn't have anything left in his heart that made him want to try" and the only reason he got them back was they were his moms (she's still alive). When we got engaged he didn't have the money to buy a ring for me so she offered up her diamond and wedding band with the caveat that we didn't alter the settings... which we didn't. Then a few years ago (about 8 years into the marriage) he gave me another band of hers, plain white gold, to wear with the other set... I would not have felt right keeping them and hopefully his mom can pass them on to another family member, such as a grandchild. My x did give me a diamond anniversary band for our 10th anniversary... that's in a safe deposit box until I figure out what I want to use the stones for (1 carat tw - so it's two 1/4 stones with a 1/2 stone in the middle) i wore it for awhile but then started to think about the slogan.... past, present, and future... HA... we only had the past at that point.... thought about selling but pretty much want to keep it because it was the only jewelry he bought me...

I thought of replacing my setting and using the diamonds and the metal to create a new setting to wear on my right hand; however, I have no idea how costly this is.

Can anyone tell us if it is really expensive to redesign existing rings?

Thank you
