Well, I've started to process of getting the house ready to sell, in the anticipation of moving back to my hometown on the Cape. I started by getting a Home Depot card-- not the SMARTEST move, but it'll enable me to get the house ready. I've posted before about the home inspection, and how STBX has caused a lot of problems in the house: shoddy electrical work, carpentry, etc., and general lack of attention to our expensive investment.
Well, I've taken the initiative, and went to HD with my brother today. He helped me pick out a new stove, microwave for over the new stove, lights for the kitchen and dining room, and we scoped out prices for wood to repair the foundation sill joist, finish siding the 2 remaining sides of the house, trim out the gaping hole in the wall (left by STBX when he took a chainsaw to it in 1990 when I told him that a lot of people were opening up the walls between their kitchen and dining rooms), and the cost of new countertops for the kitchen. Oh, and a cabinet for the master bath, so that will be finished.
Well, DB and I had a nice time, and I took himout for lunch, and thanked him, and told him that I appreciated him coming up and helping me. His gas tank was almost on "E", so I told him that I'd put $20 of gas in his tank. He jokingly refused, which wasn't a big deal. ANyway, DB & I went back to my house, and he and I unloaded the truck. STBX came to the house a short while later, while DB was leaving. STBX made a comment, "Your sister probably isn't going to thank you, but >>I<< will. Thanks, Brian." I said, "Sorry, I didn't hear what you said Bob...?" And he just sort of turned his back with his nose in the air. He gets very insecure around males who are more successful than he is, and so attempts to humiliate me. So I just turned around to DB, and said, "Bye, I'll see you soon."
I went back in the house. STBX stayed in the driveway, and was here when DS got off the bus a few minutes later. He and DS came in the house and visited for a couple of minutes. I told STBX that I'd picked out a stove and microwave, and he got all huffy-- "I've got so much on my plate right now!!" I said, "We discussed this the other day, I'm just telling you what I bought, as it pertains to our home." He was all flustered, ad was asking about DS's orthodontist appointment Friday morning. I said, "YOU made the appointment; I put the appointment card you gave me on the bulletin board." As he was leaving, he made the MOST bizarre comment I think I've heard from him... he said, "I need a CAT scan. I have my date book in my head." Some date book, if he's all flustered trying to find out when the appointment HE made is. Then he walked off to his car, and I went inside the house.

Did some more measuring, and went back to HD today to get my bathroom cabinets ordered. It's the LAST thing to have the bathroom completed! WOOHOO! I also got a closet organizer... I'd done one of those online design your closet thingys, and printed out a list-- HOWEVER-- when I got to the store, and priced all the components out, it would have been over $300! So, I grabbed a kit for under $50., which should do the trick. :-D
I started chipping of the mortar off of the backsplash... The original owners put those fake bricks as a backsplash, and the collected all sorts of grime... couldn't clean them for anything, either. Some of them started to fall off a few years ago, so I just popped the rest of them off, and left the mortar. After 10 minutes of chipping the mortar with a hammer and chisel, my wrists are killing me! Maybe I'll have DS help me.
