What does CS cover?

What type of expenses does child support cover? I know it helps pay for the housing, food, and clothing for children. Does it cover daycare for the children? Or is daycare split between the parents?

My attorney had once mentioned something about splitting the daycare in addition to cs & alimony. My STBX is under the impression daycare should be covered in the CS.

I will go over this with my attorney in the near future but I don't like to call for every little detail. I'm hoping someone can give me some insight until I do speak with my attorney. (Every phone call costs $$ with the attorney and you guys are free :))

Thanks.

Everything I have heard is that childcare is a separate expense, shared by the spouses proportional to their income. At least that is how it works in my state.

It might be state-dependent, but I think most are pretty similar. In my state, child-care, unreimbursed medical expenses (like co-pays) and extra activities for kids (like sports) are all add-ons. How those items are split is negotiable, but should be spelled out in the agreement.

My stbx has to pay 1/2 the daycare on top of cs. Of course since I have ccms my daycare total for the month is only $25. He pays 12.5o a month.

Usually, child care is in addition to child support... and if you think about it, that part will vary over the years depending on the age of the children.

Thanks everyone for your replies. STBX is in for a financial shock.
