I went to court last week, and temporary orders were done. I got joint custody!! Some of you may remember my posts that my husband was trying for sole primary custody...he didn't get it! WE didnt even have to go into the courtroom....the 2 lawyers and a mediator/judge talked, and came to us with the joint custody. Husband didn't want it, but his lawyer basically talked him into it knowing that I could get the full custody.

Anyways, now we have to wait 6 months....our next court date is March 22nd. What happens on that date? Is that the date we will be divorced? I know my lawyer was explaining things to me, but I was so nervous at the time that I really dont remember!!!

Kate were all the issues for the divorce addressed at that mediation or was this meeting only for custody and child support.

Peace,

Di

Sounds right to me. Between now and then, the attorneys should be working at writing a marital settlement agreement and a child custody agreement. You will make sure to tell your attorney all the assets that need to be split, and any special needs/desires you may have for the custody. (Like making sure Mother's Day goes to you...)

Your attorney will send you a letter stating what will happen prior to that day. If it is to finalize than it will state that barring any other circumstances your divorce is expected to be finalized on that day. The six month wait is your states period for contest?
