What should I do with my rings?

What have you ladies done with your engagement and wedding rings after your divorce? I mean, it's not like I can wear them (even though they sure are purdy lol). I was thinking about selling them or something, or maybe making the diamonds into another piece of jewelry.

What did you do, if anything?

Astra,

It's been 8 years since my divorce and I still have my wedding rings in a box. I just didn't know what to do with them and moth balling them was the easiest. I just recently took the set to a jeweler to be appraised and they'd only give me like $50 (they cost $240 brand new). I'll probably wind up having the set cleaned (and the inscription in the band buffed out) and then putting it on Ebay.

If you aren't sure I think it's perfectly OK to put them in storage for a while. I also like the idea of having the diamond reset into something new. Good luck.

Although I still have my engagement ring and a wedding band, I traded in my 10-year anniversary diamond. It was pretty big and I took it to a local jeweler that buys used jewelry. I ended up trading it in with diamond stud earrings which I wear every day. I'm really happy about it.

I have a guy friend who divorced a couple years ago, and after he worked through his pain in therapy, he decided to have his wedding ring resized into a thumb ring...it was sort of a poetic statement in that he was saying "I am no longer married, but the marraige is a part of me now and I though I let the relationship go, I acknowledge its significane in my history and life."

He is kind of a funky, trendy type guy, and he told me I should do the same with my wedding rings but have them turned into a belly button piercing!!!! LOL

I am still awaiting the affidavit papers and trying to accept my M is actually over, so I am not quite ready to go there yet in terms of resizing jewelry. I still occasionally wear my rings around my neck on a chain when I miss him. :-(

Hi Astral,
I still have my rings. I love them, I chose them, designed one of them and even initially paid for them (he paid me a few months later). The centre diamond in my engagement ring was given to me by my mother when we announced our engagement, it turns out my great aunt had left it for me in her will to be given as a wedding present. Since we hadn't yet bought a ring, we placed it in the ring...

I am holding on to them in storage until I get some more disposable income. I am planning on having the stone turned into a necklace, since it is just one. The smaller stones are probably not worth much, I may have them combined with something else he gave me and make something out of that, it depends on what the jeweller can do with them.

Good luck, and have fun!

My enagament ring is on my right hand - it is 5 diamonds, the large middle one being my Grammas. Then STBX took that & had it made with platinum & 2 diamonds on each side.

5 years post divorce.... I still have mine sitting in the drawer.

I'm thinking that perhaps, one day, I'll use the stones in another piece.... who knows!

I guess they'll just continue to sit in a drawer. My x screwed me for money so badly I may need to sell them. I loathe him sometimes.
