What would you do? Need advice!

I'll try and make this quick.

My STBX sent me an e-mail regading splitting some bills. I have no problem sharing the expenses however, one of the bills is excessive (in my mind at any rate). The bill is for our tax return preparation - we used an accountant that we used the 2 prior years. The bill jumped from $650 to $1100! The accountant & my STBX often refer business to one another so this sudden increase is questionable at best. When I asked STBX about it he said "well maybe it's because we bought property in SC and the return was more complicated because of that. Why don't you call the accountant and ask him." Mind you, I know for a fact if the bill when up that much my STBX knows the exact reason. Also, we bought and sold property and moved across state lines in one of the other years so you can't convince me that the return was more complex.

Anyhow, I asked my attorney if I had to pay and she said absolutely not. We all agree that STBX is playing some sort of game here. However, my share of the increase is only $225. If the attorneys get involved I'll end up paying more in attorney fees to fight about it.

Would you swallow your pride and pay up knowing that would actually be the cheeper thing to do? Or would you fight on principle?

I would just pay it. You're right that it will cost you a whole lot more to fight over it and fighting over something like that may lead to a more acrimonious divorce proceeding. That's just my 2 cents.

Thanks!

My gut is saying the same thing. It's just soooo frustrating 'cause I know he worked something out with this accountant. But you're right $225 ain't worth the fight.
