How do you handle it when family members you didn't think would take sides do?
Dss's wife, apparently, testified FOR stbx that he is not an alcoholic. I'm stunned. There's been more than one occaision that she's been over here at noon on Sunday, looked at him and said "You reek". She was the one person outside of this household I was going ot ask to testify for me. For her testimony to have cleared him (he found his own alcohol screener), she had to have lied. She can't testify to the daily nature of his drinking or even the amounts since she doesn't live here and she's witnessed many episodes where he has drank way too much. To add insult to injry, she won't leave HER kids in his care!!!! She knows yet testified for him.
I feel betrayed. I had hoped to keep a relationship with her and dss but I can see that will not be happening. STBX's entire family is rallying behind him in spite of the fact most of them know he has a drinking problem. I don't get it.

yes i am sad to say that people do take sides. i spoke to fil's wife in september. i called my fil, he refused to return my phone calls. so she called me several times. we spoke at length regarding the similarities between my stbx and her h. (her first h died and she remarried my fil) she said if she were me, she'd divorce him and offered me her support. guess what?? i haven't heard from her since i filed for d in oct. she has taken the side of her h, my fil.
i've also lost girlfriends, and the friends i've retained, well, their husbands have sided with my stbx. so its a mess.
thank god i have my kids.
