HUGS!! You poor thing. Accidents happen ALL the time. It sounds like your son is OK, thank goodness.
I think we can ALL say we have made mistakes as parents. When my son was tiny and I was nursing him in bed, I fell asleep, and he fell out of the bed into his head on the hardwood floor!
I know it is easier said than done, but try not to beat yourself up over it. Your child's OK...lesson learned. Hang in there.
You are not a bad mom. You are very busy trying to do everything on your own. It's not easy caring for a toddler and a new baby, things happen and you acted quickly.
My mother told me this story of when my older brother and sister were little. My sister got into the medicine cabinet in the bathroom and had to be rushed to the hospital. They gave her medication to help get the med out of her system and they kept her overnight for observation. My mother took my brother and went home. Within minutes of being home my brother got into the SAME medicine cabinet and he had to be taken to the hospital too!!! Can you imagine going through that??
It's sad that your ex is so uninvolved like that. Of course he's probably pretty caught up in his whole deal and underestimated the seriousness of the incident.
You are not a bad Mom, this kind of thing happens all the time. When Mason was 4 he got into his vitamins and almost had to have his stomach pumped. All because I didn't put them away or put the lid on good enough. Your STBX though sounds like a real candidate for the title. I'm so sorry you had to go through that alone. <<>>
I, too, have had a childproof cap "pop" off when dropped. Fortunately I dropped it and got them all up right away. My son got whacked in the forehead with a baseball bat with 4 adults standing right there -- laid his head open to the skull -- ran right up when his sister was batting. Children will always get in SOME accidents no matter how careful we are. My sister keeps her medicines locked in a combination safe-like thing--I always thought that was overkill, but who knows....
You by no means deserve the worst mom award. It sounds like you handled the situtation quite well. And thank goodnesss that your little one is okay. My youngest son used to get into everything. One night I found him sitting in the middle of my bed chewing all of my vitamin E capsules. Another time, he drank a bottle of cough syrup while I was giving a spoon of it to his big brother. I should have had poison control on speed-dial. You can't always stop kids from getting into things, and you definitely can't be in all places at all times. The important thing is that you acted quickly and got your son medical attention.
I can't say the same for your STBX. If he responds to medical emergencies by "checking the mail" and getting locked out of his apartment, then I sure wouldn't want him around in the event of an emergency. He should get the Worst Dad award. You, on the other hand, were there when your son needed you, and that IMHO makes you a good mom!
(((((HUGS))))) to you and your little one.

No way, lady.
you are not the worst mom in the world - but your ex certainly gets a 'bad parent' citation from me! what a loser!!!
you made a mistake ---- your son is fine ---- thank God ---- now you need to find a safer place for your pills and stop beating yourself up about this
give those kids an extra hug from me!!
Sorry, you don't get that award.....
Save that prize for Dad....
