Boyfriend In The Military

My boyfriend and I have been dating almost 2 years. It has been an amazing two years. However, just recently he decided that he wanted to join the Air Force and successfully graduated from basic training a week ago. I am very proud of him and so supportive. I love him with all of my heart but our relationship is changing and as much as I am ready and willing to make it work, I'm not sure if he is. I want to know what he is thinking, but I am afraid if I bring it up, I will chase him away. I'm not sure what to think or do. Is there anyone in this position? Does anyone know what I should do in terms of making this work, showing him I'm ready for the challenge without scaring him, and managing a way of better communication?

If, after two years, communicating with your boyfriend about the relationship will scare him away, then you don't ahev a strong committed relationship right now.

'as much as I am ready and willing to make it work, I'm not sure if he is.'

Why? Is he talking about a future without you?

I think that you have to confront your concerns right now. Being in the military today is scary for those in the armed forces and for those that love them. Tell him how you feel and let him know that you are there for him. He's probably just as scared or more as you are.. talk about it before he gets his orders and is gone. I am dating a man in the AF and my ex of 5 years was a Marine so I know how difficult these relationships can be. I wish you the very best.

Welcome to the board enlessdreamr22,

You just need to sit down with your bf and have a good talk with him. Let him know how you are feeling and that you are willing and ready to make the relationship work. If you have been together for two years already, this shouldn't scare him away.
