Can I say it this way?

Hi - I am celebrating a one year anniversary with my man that I have been dating exclusively. I have never told him that I love him even though I do, and I have tried a few times in the past few months but I just can't seem to get it out. We are both in our mid 40's, divorced, I know that I love him. I wrote a poem for him and am planning on giving it to him this weekend, my question is this: since I can't seem to get it to come out of my mouth, at the end of the poem I was going to write "I Love You". Do you think that it would be ok to do that having never said it to him yet? Should the first time saying it be verbal or does it really matter? And do you think that will put him on the spot, I don't want him to think he has to say it back if he isn't ready.

What do you think?

Thanks for any input

I don't think that one year is rushing things. I am surprised it ahs taken this long. Where you both hurt in your previous relationships? Did you date soon after the divorce? Isn't this something you should discuss?

I think it is most acceptable to say 'I love you' whichever way makes you feel comfortable.

I dont think a year is rushing things and I also think that putting I love you on a card might be more easy...this way, he'll see it, and maybe reciprocate.

Best of Luck, keep us posted....
