Hi there,

I have posted on this board with my dilema only once, the feedback and support is brilliant.  I start counselling tomorrow and I have no idea what to expect.  I have been for a booking in appointment about 3 weeks ago to start family counselling but my ex doesn't want to do that as yet.  My step children have been seen for thier first session and my ex has been to a private session already last week.  Now it is my turn.  I am having a bad day, I feel teary, confused and as though I would prefer to just go to bed and wake up tomorrow with a fresh start.

Can anyone tell me what to expect from the counselling session please?

Thank you x

You WILL have a fresh start tomorrow.  I don't remember your posts, but starting counseling has to be a good thing, not something to worry about.  I'm sure there will be talking, you'll be asked questions regarding the reason you're there, and the counselor will help you figure out the answers to your problem(s).  Good Luck with it!

The first session with a counselor is to get some background info on you--they will ask you about your family background and the reasons you feel that you want to be in counseling.  For a while you might feel like no progress is being made since the counselor has to find out about everyone to understand the situation.  Also, counselors generally don't tell you what to do--they try to ask you questions so you come up with the solution.  Keep at it and good luck.

Thank you, I have looked up my counsellor on thier website and she looks confident which has given me a boost.  Perhaps thats odd but I want to make sure I am pouring my heart out to someone that I can speak to in confidence.  Thank you for the support, roll on this afternoon ....
