Welcome to the board gsmommy213,

If you have health insurance, you can call them and see how is covered and if they recommended someone. That might help some.

I can't remember if she mentioned it or not, but also you can get a referral from your regular doctor.

Not all marriage therapists are the same and you do need to invest time into researching them. They may have their certificates and accreditation, but you have to be comfortable with them, too. Be careful about choosing someone because they're on your insurance list. Often they are on that list because they don't have clients due to not being so good or because they're new to the profession and haven't built up their clientele. I would start asking my doctor about marriage counselors. If you know anyone in therapy that respects their counselor, ask them to ask for a referral. They're on the inside and can list colleagues they esteem.

Don't just look in the phone book. Get a referral from your doctor, church, university, local clinic or best of all somebody you know. There is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of about getting the help you need. But it is very important to take the time to research this in a careful way. Call people in the know, doctors, pastors, university departments in clinical psychology, and get the names of individuals who are in good repute. Also, talk to anyone you think might have first hand experience with a counselor. The research will pay off.

I personally do not know any websites to recommend.

Best wishes,
