Guy on Vacation, no calls

My live-in boyfriend left to go on vacation across the country last week. I was supposed to go with him but due to my financial situation, and starting a new job, I obviously couldn't.
He's been gone for 5 days, with another 4 to go, and I'm really missing him. He promised before he left that he would call me every night, but I haven't heard a word from him in almost 3 days aside from a text message yesterday stating he would call me last night.
Work has been going crappy, and I just got some horrible news from my mom about her health, so now I need to talk to him more than ever, and he didn't call!
I'm even more upset, because I got a few offers to go out last night but really wanted to talk to him so I waited for his call.
I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for the first few days, despite the fact that he told me he would call every night, but now I feel forced to jump to conclusions...
Unless he has a really good excuse, right now, I feel like I'm just being taken for granted.
I can be almost certain it's not an emergency since his parents (who are also there) would have called by now to fill me in.
What would you think?

Something definately seems to be up. If you two are living together i'm assuming that the relationship is serious and that kind of behavior should be unacceptable. A serious talk should be in order when he returns. Are you able to contact him or his parents?
