I've never been around a very healthy relationship before.... my parents divorced when I was 6, my mom is on her 3rd marriage and my Dad never even got remarried.

I never had an example of a healthy relationship either. My parents shouldn't be allowed to be married to any one and my sister has never had more than one serious relationship and she is 42. I have had friends who's relationships were nightmares. I learned by watching others mistakes and then did the opposite. I have a very happy, healthy marriage and I guess I feel like I might not have if I didn't have the learning opportunities that I did. Use what you have learned by these people's mistakes and then gauge your own behavior by it. It can work.

Welcome to the board need2fly16,

I think it is possible to have a healthy relationships even if you didn't grow up witnessing any. I think the key is to learn from the mistakes that you and other couples make.

Honestly my parents were about the worst examples of how to live every aspect of life. What I learned from them was the be the exact opposite of everything they were, and it worked.

People are so diverse that you really need to focus on what works for YOU and what the two of you deem as workable for the two of you.

Welcome to the board need2fly16,

Communication plays a big key in healthy relationship. Unfortunately, most people think they are good at communicating and really aren't.
