Hi. I was laid off from my job in February and I still dont have a job yet and its may.. Right now I hate my life and i really dont care to be here to witness the rest of it..I have tried everything to get a new job. I have worked with 4 temp agencies and found a week of work thats all. I have applied for hundreds of jobs but its the twenty year olds that get hired.. Im 40. Its just been so difficult to get anywhere. I had gone to some interviews last week. i hope I can get one of those jobs butnwho knows??? I am just soo depressed i mean really depressed and I dont know what to do??? i have no money and i am soo poor and soo depressed. Our bills are paid up pretty good except for sum late payments on credit cards but our credit is good..i need to shake up things and do something drastic to get things moving. I have never been so down in my life. I dont care about anything anymore. I hate sex, i hate shopping, i really dont care about anything. My husband tries to be supportive and says u will get a job and it will b ok... but i dont beleive him. i have done everything i can think of to get a job and to stay positive but its all wearing thin now...I dont know if im over reacting to the situation but I just start freaking out over things and it makes everyone else upset.. i just want to fix things so bad and no matter what i do it doesnt work. help!!!!

It's a tough job market out there. You haven't really given much information to work with, so I'll give you some guesses as to possible solutions. Because what you are doing isn't working, I'm thinking that perhaps something in your approach needs changing.
Is your skill set up to date? Would it help to learn another skill which will make you more marketable?
What about personal appearance. Would you benefit from a funky new haircut? Or perhaps your wardrobe needs updating?
Or, what if you change directions completely and used other skills. If you've got kids you may be able to find work in a child related industry as an untrained assistant.
For example, I used to do office admin, but after having kids -one of which has autism - I returned to work as a teacher's aide (with a good reference from my kid's school principal). Let me tell you, there is such a shortage of aides that my phone is often ringing.
What about hobbies? Could you use your experience with a hobby and turn it into a job? For example, if I tired of being an aide, I could go and look for work with a scrapbooking retailer. Or I could freshen up my skills and teach bellydance. Or because I'm not grossed out with bodily functions, I could get work doing home care for elderly/sick/disabled people.
Think beyond the square.
In the meantime, use the time while you're not working to stay fit and healthy. There's no excuse to not be out exercising most days. Walking or jogging costs nothing. And you've got enough time to cook really healthy, nice dinners.
Don't laugh at my diet and excercise suggestions. They will not only help with your depression, but they'll make you more marketable.
Good luck.
Depression takes hold when we feel like we are out of control of our lives so every step you take toward creating something better matters. The first poster gave you some very concrete, workable suggestions. It would also be beneficial for you to talk to someone who can help you on a professional or spiritual level. Spend some energy on what you DO have to be grateful for and as those things pop up that challenge you be open to looking at them differently - they are an opportunity to learn and grow.
Your life doesn't work for you right now - believe me I know the feeling - I just told myself it's a process and I will get through it and when it got really bad, I told myself just get through the day. When you stop giving your power away to the circumstances in your life and truly make the effort to change things, eventually you will see your life and your possibilities begin to open up.
Good luck!
