How to get over my first love
| Sat, 01-05-2008 - 5:56pm |
Hi,
I am 22 and I recently broke up with my long-term girlfriend. We had been together almost 4 years and a week ago we broke up. I have no clue how it feels for her but I feel really really down at the moment.
Can anyone give me some advice on dealing with the pain? How can I make it go away for ever?

I'm really sorry about what happened. We have ALL been there, you're not alone! Your first love is the hardest to get over, but you will. After a week it's understandable that you're still hurting. I imagine that the feeling of her really being gone has set in only recently; it will take more time to get over it.
The best thing you can do for yourself is to spend most of your time with other people whose company you enjoy. Stay away from being alone too much - when you are alone your mind has more room to wander to things that bother you. Stay active, go to the gym or go for a run. Ask someone to come with you.
I know it sucks right now but there will come a time when you don't think of her anymore, just have to keep looking forward to that day and knowing that it will get here eventually.
Welcome to the board rafta,
What you are feeling is completely normal after a break up. Everyone needs to grieve for what was lost. I had a breakup several years ago that was really hard on me and it took me a while to get over it. What finally helped me was getting into a routine I was really happy and comfortable with. For example, when I got home from work I would watch a show I really liked and then go work out for an hour. Then I would come home cook supper, watch more tv, read a book, and go to bed. I would also go out with friends sometimes. Best of luck to you.

Welcome to the board rafta,
Working through the grief, processing it, moving through it is the only way through the pain.
It takes time to get over a loss. Be patient with yourself, allow yourself to feel your sadness. If you push it away and it goes underground, usually it surfaces later in other ways.
