I guess it's strange but I don't think it would really upset me. Have you asked him to elaborate on why it makes him uncomfortable?

I guess if I were the girl, I would feel uncomfortable waiting on my new boyfriend and his friends. I'm kind of surprised that wouldn't be a little weird for you...

I think the guy is just trying to spare YOU a little bit of the discomfort of having to be in a subservient position to him and his buddies.

Welcome to the board mlml2008 -

You've already been given good advice by everyone else.

I used to be a server for about a year. My bf hardly ever came in to see me and to be honest, I wished he came in more often than he did. One of the other servers was actually dating my bf's younger brother and he used to come in all the time! I have to admit that I was a little envious. I had asked my bf why he didn't show up often and he said that felt like he would be a bug if he came in at a busy time. I told him that I don't mind what time he comes in, and it's just nice to see him. So he started coming in periodically usually when the restaurant had passed the rush hour and we had time to at least carry on a short conversation during his time there.
The best advice I can give you is to offer your bf to come in during the slow parts of the day. He doesn't necessarily have to bring his friends along. If he feels more comfortable coming in by himself, then I don't see why he couldn't.
