Okay so here is the deal - I have a happy home from the outside looking in - great kids - nice house - live in a good neighborhood - kids do well in school - Husband who loves me - Money is good - Husband who wants to buy me jewelry and clothes - Everyone is healthy - and I am still depressed - My husband reminds of these things when I am very depressed and I respond with I know - I have everything any woman could want and yet I still feel depressed - So is it menopause? - my husband thinks it is a chemical thing that happens around my period. or is it a mid life crisis? or am I really just unappreciative of what I have? I could write more but not sure where to begin or what to tell - at any rate it would be too long to post all at once. Thanks for your help

It sounds like it could be a low to moderate grade chronic depression. This can be caused biochemically or situationally. Don't make the assumption that it's situational unless you can pin point some reason. DO go see your doc. Also, see a counselor as soon as you can. If the doc decides on meds, meds and therapy work the best together. If he doesn't think you need meds, then still do some counseling. Take care of yourself.

Thanks for the advice - already went to the doc and a counselor - she did prescribe meds but I am not into drugs (although I do self medicate with alcohol at times) I was willing to try them but looked them up on the internet and the side effects were enough to really depress a person. I saw the counselor only about 3 times and I really didn't feel as if it was going anywhere. I think my biggest problem is that I have a control issue and feel as if I don't have any. I also - I know this maybe hard to believe for some people because it is for my husband - but I don't care about having a big nice house, car, things, etcetera - I would rather spend the same amount of money on doing things together as a family. and I have issues with being told that things will happen and they never do - I feel like I am always on hold and trapped in a house constantly doing housework. My DH also likes to have guests so we are often entertaining house guests - not to mention that we both work full time.
again thanks for the help

I would suggest that you try SAMe, a natural product that works as an anti-depressant. You do need to take a B12complex with it. Both can be found at Walmart or any vitamin store.

Also, it took me 5 counselors to find one that I felt comfortable with and was working well with. Don't give up on that!

There are many causes for depression, some are chemical and hormonal, others are caused by deeper issues from the past that we may be unconscious of and that haven't been resolved. Depression can also come from the way in which we feel about ourselves and live our lives. Although there are many wonderful things around you, you may not been living from your full potential, or doing

Welcome to the board traveler_43,

After reading your additional post, my guess is part of it is feeling UNHEARD - we withdraw, don't talk or share because we figure what's the point after awhile.
