So, we met about 3 years ago and started dating 1 and a half years go.....he is way up in Baltimore and I am way down in New Orleans (we are both students)....when we see each other we have the best time, but lately our phone conversations have been getting more and more brief...lots of silence and "uhhh, So.....".

We talk to each other every night, but lately there just isnt much to talk about. I keep reading all of these articles about these couples that talk for hours and hours, and Im starting to feel insecure about our relationship. Any advice???

hmmm....not really, but perhaps boredom is setting in and since the distance prevents you from spicing things up a bit maybe you ought to take some time to yourselves to reflect and see if this is what really works for the both of you.

I think you hit it on the head...and thats what I figured it was, but I suppose the idea of not talking to him every night is kind of scary- needed to hear it from someone else...thanks for your input!

It is rough to keep a long distance relationship alive and well. People need actual time together, touching, affection and shared experiences for the bond to deepen. Also, when people are alone too long, even though they have someone far away, it can become difficult not to feel drawn to someone who is closer by. The way to keep a long distance relationship going is to make sure you see each other as much as possible. Talk about your feelings inbetween and any issues that arise. Also, if there is an end in sight, a time when the two of you can live close by, that often helps as well. If not, the situation can begin to seem hopeless.

Rather than just those ums and ahhs on the phone - ask him how he's feeling about this? Talk openly with each other. And make plans to get together a lot.

Best wishes.
