Anyway, he is an alcoholic. They come in many varieties but generally don't attempt to kick the addiction until their life falls apart to the point that they have no choice. As of now, you are the one preventing it from falling apart, hence, you are partially responsible for him getting drunk. It's called co-dependency and you get something out of it (albeit it an unhealthy need) just as you do caretaking

Your relationship is good "except" for his drinking?????
