should I be concerned?

I just started dated this guy for 6 weeks. We've gone out once a week so far. I called him for the first time last night and he turned out to be not much of a conversationalist. There was a lot of silence on his part. We both seemed to have struggled to keep the conversation going. We only talked for 10 minutes but he asked me out again for this weekend. Should I be concerned that he can't really carry on a converstation? Is he just shy? I haven't noticed this quietness when we spend time together only because I like being around him and the attention he gives me but I'm sure this phase will fade as time goes by. We haven't had any physical contact yet except hugging after our dates. Is there any way I can open him up more? I do like him. Thanks in advance.

Most guys are not phone friendly people (like my bf), after dating for 2 years we have never talked on the phone over 5 minutes! Even when he is overseas! No need to be concerned...

For me, any phone conversation greater than 3 minutes in length is long. If it's with someone far away, I can talk a long time. If it's with someone that I could visit, I'd just rather save my conversation for a face-to-face chat. Now, if there are pregnant silences when you're together, then maybe you aren't a good match. Other times, there can be long periods of silence and couples are quite comfortable with that. (Usually this happens with people married for a long time.) This is why people date, isn't it? To find out how they match?
