My bf has a large family....10 siblings. His brother Steve that called me yelled that part, that I was lying about being home, for Johns benefit; to protect me from him. His other siblings and family
""Question of the day: Do you believe a person's past SHAPES them or DEFINES them?""
Yes it shapes them, you are the person you are today because of the experiences you had in the past. IMO... If you go through something bad and come out on the other side better, then it was a good thing in a way.... the problem is when you DON'T learn from your past and the mistakes that were made, then you continue to make the same mistakes over and over again...and that is the definition of insanity.
Thank you and I agree. That has been my philosophy. Easy part is knowing that about yourself so can move forward....applying that to others in your life harder. What I am trying to do with my bf. Understand how his past has shaped him rather than define him by it. But the longer we are together means I become part of his past too....and that should shape us both and for the better. Why we have started our "good talks" each night. We want OUR history to be what shapes us, and that means focusing on all the good we have and share and that it is larger and more often than the hard times or our "bad" times. We have looked back and every arguement has at it's core his past relationships and my growing resentment at paying for others mistakes. Only he can let go or change what shapes his actions, thoughts and feelings more strongly. And only I can control whether I choose to feel resentment or understanding and how that shapes me in this relationship.
