Would he consider couple's counseling with you?
Reading materail to consider:
The Half-Empty Heart: A Supportive Guide to Breaking Free from Chronic Discontent, by Alan Downs
The Men We Never Knew: How to Deepen Your Relationship with the Man You Love, Daphne Rose Kingma
Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy – David D. Burns, MD (has tests and exercises to talk back to negative feelings)
If you think he's depressed, consider one of these:
When Someone You Love Is Depressed: How to Help Your Loved One Without Losing Yourself, Laura Epstein Rosen
The Pain Behind the Mask: Overcoming Masculine Depression, John Lynch
What to Do When Someone You Love Is Depressed, Mitch Golant, Susan K. Golant
I Don't Want to Talk about It: Overcoming the Secret Legacy of Male Depression, by Terrence Real
If you want to try to save it (it does take both of you working on it) try one of these:
A Couple's Guide to Communication, John Mordechai Gottman
His Needs, Her Needs by Dr. Willard F. Harley Jr
The 10 Second Kiss, Ellen Kreidman
My best to you.
