Work different shifts-ideas?

My boyfriend and I live together, but work different shifts. He works nights and starts anytime between 7 and 9. He gets home between 5 am and 8.

I usually get done with work at 6:30(home around 7) with a later shift every once in a while. i usually start work at 10:00(unfortuanatly he is usually sleeping by then). To put an extra twist on it he works Sunday, Wed, Thurs one week and Mon, Tues, Fri, Sat. the next week.

I'm just wondering if you have any advice for keeping connected.

You could get him to wake up when he gets home so you can have some time in the morning together. If he's home at 6am, you have a couple hours before you have to go to work. Obviously, when he gets home at 8am - there isn't as much time - but you could still see each other. He could sit with you while you have breakfast or you could join him in his shower after work ;-)

Alternately, you could leave each other notes around the house. You could place a gifts (like a chocolate if he likes treats - my DH does) on your pillow for him while he's sleeping.

There are bound to be some days that you both have off...Sat one week and Sun the next (by the look of the schedule). Make sure you spend some quality time together - quality time is not watching TV together :)

Have fun,
Dee

Welcome to the board s_ann_2000,

My husband and I work different shifts all the time. He used to work the midnight shift sometimes 11 pm to 7am and I always work 9 am to 5pm. So when he was sleeping sometimes I would just lay in bed and cuddle him and watch tv while he was sleeping. Now our shifts are still different, but not so extreme. Just try to spend as much time together as possible and talk on the phone each day. I used to take him food to work and get with him. Maybe you can do that if possible.

Thanks for the ideas. It's a tough situation. Unfortuantly I can't visit him at work and we tried date nights but somehow life kept getting in the way. We have a board that we leave each other notes on and text each other a lot too.
