Accidental discovery on the job

Hi. I'm not sure exactly where to post this, but I thought I'd try this board among others.
I work as a housekeeper at a motel and something unusual happened yesterday while I was beginning to clean a room. I started with the used bedsheets which I removed from the bed, and then I went to the bathroom to collect any used towels. Like all the rooms I clean, I always knock before I enter and often times the lights and/or the TV are left on. They were on in the bathroom as I stepped in, but what I found was shocking. There was a man in the bathtub who was masturbating and he didn't appear to know I was there. I couldn't see the top half of his body as it was blocked by the shower curtain. Next to the tub lying on a towel was a radio with a wire stemming from it to behind the curtain and I concluded that he was listening to the radio using headphones and did't know that I was in the room. So, I left the room, closed the door and went on to the next room.
About an hour later the manager calls me to her office and informs me that one of the guests called in. She said he was frantic and asked for the police saying that someone had broken into his room while he was taking a bath. She told him that it was the housekeeper who had entered his room and is in the process of cleaning all the rooms. When she asked him if he had heard me knock, he informed her about the radio and headphones which I had suspected and that he didn't hear anyone knock and he didn't know anyone was in the room. She told me he was very upset and feared that I might have seen him while he was taking a bath. I didn't know exactly how to answer, but knowing that she has a sense of humor and has joked about related incidents in the past regarding guests, I decided to tell her everything. Naturally, she laughed at it. I did too I must admit. He asked her to ask me if I had seen him while he was taking a bath because he informed her that he would be too embarrassed about seeing me later or the next day if I had seen him (which is very understandable). She told him she would ask me and get back to him. Well, after I told her everything which had happened and after we had a good laugh over it, she decided not to tell him the truth. Instead, she told him that I had seen a light on in the bathroom and thought there might be someone in there and so I left the room without checking (Big lie!).
Anyway, he seemed relieved to hear this and so I went to his room later to finish cleaning. He was dressed and watching TV when I got there and I pretended as if nothing had happened. Nothing else happened and the rest of his time there was free of incident.
I wanted to share this with you for two reasons. First, I posted this just because I felt like it. I just felt I needed to get this out. The second reason is to get your input (if any) and to ask if you think he might have done all this on purpose or whether you believe he was genuinely caught unawares. I've run into different situations before involving couples and people who sleep late, so, anything's possible I thought; but this is the first time I've run into (so to speak) a man masturbating in the bathtub!
TIA.
Julie

I have no idea if he did it on purpose or if he honestly just got caught.
Yeah, he was caught off guard and it wasn't planned. The best course of action was to tell the truth to the manager. These cases aren't always as straight forward as they seem and lying to the manager (ie. pretending that you hadn't seen him out of a sense of decency towards the guy ) could come back to bite you if there was something odd going on. The fact that you changed your story wouldn't help even if the truth is embarrassing. I don't think that the manager who was in control of the situation should have told him the truth at that point. There was nothing to be gained and plenty to loose. She acted correctly - she avoided telling him that you had seen him masturbating but she knew the truth.
One odd thing that happened to a couple of my staff one day was when two of the housekeeping girls were cleaning rooms. Usually two girls worked as a team to clean a floor in this particular hotel. They went into a room as usual, knocking and calling out and then entering with the passkey. One drew the curtains back, the other grabbed some towels, and then they both grabbed the duvet cover and swept it off the bed in one motion as they prepared to strip the sheets - and exposed a small, sleeping, and very naked Japanese lady curled up in the middle of the bed. We had some explaining to do once we found the Hotel's Concierge/Interpreter....
I worked as a housekeeper in a Holiday Inn while I was in college. In one room, the guests had left several Polaroid instant photos behind. They were left lined neatly in a row on the dresser. These photos were of a man & woman masterbating, having oral and anal sex. They had to have been taken by a 3rd party, and were taken in the hotel room. The 3rd party must have known what they were doing, because they had done an excellent job of using all of the right angles & lighting. Not a detail was missed!
I remember being pretty impressed at the time, I was very inexperienced sexually. Anyway, I took the photos home with me and my girlfriends and I had a good laugh that night.
Thank you all for your replies. This confirms my belief that it was a freak accident that allowed me to see this guy in his most delicate moment. It's just that it is quite probably the wildest episode I've experienced, so far.
Julie
Julie,
I truely hope you have many safe and much wilder experiences in your life!!!!
I hope you enjoy your time working in the hospitality industry.
Have know several maids and room cleaners in hotels. Several friends cleaned rooms to pay for college. You never know what you might find in a hotel room. Have had several friends that managed hotels, inns at state parks. One friend and his wife managed a small hotel about 35 miles out from his home town walked in a room to clean it and found a couple of friends they knew which were married but not to each other.
Knew some maids that cleaned rooms at a coed dormitory. They had several tales to tell.
Your OK you didn't do anything wrong and you and the manager handled it well.
Another group that has some good stories to tell are nurses.
Good luck
