i WISH i knew! i'm a shaver- but am thinking of waxing...what tips does anyone have for a first timer?

how much growth should i have before going the first time? how often on average will i need to go? i hear that exfoliating before hand helps...anyone with more tips or advice?

I don't wax, but I do use an epilator which pulls the hair out at the root like waxing. What I do is exfoliate each day(I actually use a loofah or sometimes even will buy a kitchen sponge) and then use lotion. I rarely have ingrowns, and I stay nice and smooth.

I just got my first bikini wax last week. It is not exactly brazilian, since she didn't do the labia or the backside. My waxer won't do it, and that part is easy enough to shave so I skipped it. I did get all of the rest removed. It was about 1/4 inch which she said was perfect. I have heard that the first time is the worst, as far as the pain factor, and hairs not easily coming out. She had to do the same areas a couple of times, which led to discomfort during, and irritation afterwards. But after a few days and a nice clean, hairless, razor burn free area, I'm happy I did it. I was told to expect to need it again in 2 weeks, but after a few times, the results would last longer.
