Air coming out of...

Hi all,
My hubby and I have come across a new phenomenon in our sex life. It's actually quite embarrassing. We've been together for 8 years and this is the first time this has happened and I was wondering if you can shed some light. Lately, air has been coming out of my vagina after intercourse. It's like gas, but it's just coming out of a different place. What's this? Is this normal?

It's amazing that it has never happened to you before. It's "normal" and common, so common there's a name for it: "quif" (pronounced queef). There's no reason to be embarassed....most people just ignore it, or laugh about it. Some people call them "vaginal farts". Check out this site: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=quif
It usually happens when your torso is lower than your pelvis. Particularly if you've had children, but even if you haven't. The muscles and tendons that hold your uterus and cervix in place get relaxed, and when you get in a position where your pelvis is higher than your torso, everything shifts upwards in your body, and sucks air into your vagina. Then when you straighten up, or level off, the air has to go somewhere, and that's OUT.
If it bothers you that much, then avoid positions that can cause it, like missionary with your legs over his shoulders, or doggie style.
As Dakine said, this happens when air is pushed in by his penis like a pump, but the air can't get out until you straighten up. When it first happened to my wife, many years ago, she said, "What was THAT". LOL
