I think this site is great and very useful! However, I have a question!!!!!

When someone makes a post under sex topics or relationships, the post are usually responded to quickly and have several post. But when someone makes post to the health related issues section, I have realized that some are not EVER responded to and if they are only a few responses are submitted. I realize that sex, realtionships and other things maybe more interesting and exciting to discuss, but health concerns are important as well! And when one of our friends on here usually post in the more popular topics and needs advice in other areas and decides to post else where, I feel that they should get equal responses. Does any one else feel the same way? I was just curious!

I dont think it has to do so much with not wanting to respond/ or it not being as interesting...

Rather I think it has to do with the nature of the questions. I for One do not feel very comfortable answering health related questions that I have no experience or knowledge about. I think many others can relate that if they dont know the answer or have had a similar expereince or knowledge to share they refrain from getting involved.

I usually will respond to ANY post that I can relate to personally. And even a few I can't.

But in the health section of the board, there are some subjects I have no personal experience with at all. For instance, BCPills. I have never used that form of birth control personally, so I don't tend to respond to those posts.

Doesn't mean that I have no interest in the subject but I like to leave the advice or input to those who have personal insight and experience to offer.

There is no bias toward those posts though, since medical advice should come from medical professionals.

As Tish indicated, there really haven't been any posts that've received responses, but health related posts generally do get less responses than the more 'fun' type of topics if you will.

Its the same way on pretty much any message board through IVillage as well. There will always be those certain sections that people cannot relate to as effectively as other sections...and also, some topics just leave more room for opinions than others.

I don't think its anything to truly be concerned about, it happens across the boards. Hope that makes sense. :)

You can't control what people respond to or don't respond to. Having said that, I don't relate very well to women's health problems - not being a woman and all.... :-)

As already said several times already, most people simply don't post if they have no opinion or advice to give. And most health problems are definitely something to talk to your Doctor about. You often see the advice goes something like "Well, it could be this or it could be that, or I have no idea really. You're better off talking to your Doctor."
