I was just reading the weirdest article on pharmdaily.com about some women who are allergic to their partner’s semen. Is that true? I sometimes find sex leaves me nauseous and sick, could this be the answer? http://pharmdaily.com/Article/5438/Some_Women_Allergic_to_Semen.html?CategoryID=1&Search=

Yes, it's true.....people can be allergic to anything, including semen. It would be a reaction in the vagina or on the vulva......burning, itching, whatever.

Since being sick and nauseous is "internal".....and the semen doesn't go anywhere except the vagina and vulva......it's not going to make you sick or nauseous. (It might be something psychological, but it's not an allergy)

Semen allergies can happen but they are rare.

This happened to a friend of mine. When she got married ( she was a virgin ), was not ready to start a family so they opted for barrier methods of BC ( they used condoms and spermicides ) especially since he was in the military and could be seperated at times she didn't want anything like the pill or IUD. After a couple of years, they decided to TTC and noticed symptoms starting the 1st time. After several more times the symptoms increased in severity and she sought medical attention from her GYN who pretty much dismissed it as vaginosis. With her worsening symptoms with each encounter, she finally did end up in the E-R with difficulty breathing and raw genitals!. Luckily she was eventially DX'ed correctly and the component that caused her reaction could be seperated from the sperm for invitro perposes. They are still together and have two grown children. He still have to use condoms to protect her from exposure as what ever it is that she's alergic to is present in all ejaculate (even after a vasectomy) and can't be "seperated out" prior to ejaculation.
