saturday night me and b/f were having sex and today i noticed that my naval piercing was sore (?) maybe not sore but anyway, i keep some witch hazel here at work and i spritz the piercing twice a day, so i did this and i noticed at the top of the bar it is red and i had a bit of bleeding.

anyone else have piercing and can give me a heads up? i have had it for approximately 5 weeks and have had no problems at all before this, even when we have had sex. i bring up the sex part b/c we spent some of our time in the missionary position, which naturally would allow friction on my stomach.

thanks guys!

Sounds like an infection setting in.

Witch Hazel is an astringent....but it's not going to do anything for an infection. It's not antibacterial, and it's not a disinfectant.

You need to use peroxide or alcohol.....and if it doesn't lose the redness in a day or two, then it might be infected, and you need to see the doctor.

yes, i know what witch hazel is but it is what i have used from day one in addition to the salt soaks and i have healed up nicely.

i was just wondering if anyone else ever had just the top portion of a naval piercing get red.

btw - anyone out there have any below the belt piercings - or is that for another board???????

I would recommend using peroxide and bacatracin or neosporin to help with bacteria, or continue with the regime recommended when you first got it pierced. If it becomes inflamed or continues to show signs of possible infection, then have it looked at.

If you want to talk with others on iVillage that have piercings, here's the board that you will probably find the most helpful:

There's a great CL named Heather (rowan6) on that board.

You should call your piercer, they would know what to do about it.
