Anyone Know Anything About Protitis??

Good morning,

I have a quick question… I know you all have seen my previous posts about what's gone on with my situation with that guy from the other state. Ok, well, First of all, you'll all be happy to know that I've got an appointment to see the counselor for tomorrow. Also, I have an appointment to see my gyn tomorrow morning for 2 reasons… One of which is the reason why I am writing… One reason is just because I want to get "checked out" just to be safe. The other is this:

AFTER everything happened, we were talking and he mentioned to me that he's been having some health problems. He hasn’t been to a dr about them, but mentioned crohns disease or protitis being possibilities with the symptoms he's getting (bloody stool, joint pain, diahrrhea, etc)… I didn’t think anything of this until I started having problems of my own since that last time we were together (Friday). I've been feeling uncomfortable (itchy) "down there" in the "other area" (trying to sound as nice as possible here, sorry about this)… I didn’t really worry until I started doing some research online about Protitis. I've read nothing but horrible things about it. It sounds like something that isnt just a gastro-intestinal thing. It seems like a sexual thing, and it mentioned HIV a lot with it. All over the place on the net… This is making me totally freak out. What do I do?? I mean, this guy told me after the fact so I didn’t know, (not saying I should've had sex with him) - and yes, it was unprotected. Stupid, I know. Please don’t even go there on that, I already know believe me. But what do I do now? I have the appointment with the gyno but what do I say? Does anyone here have any experience with this protitis thing? Anyone know anything about it?? He hasn’t gone to a dr. so I'm not sure that's what it is, and I don’t want to call him for obvious reasons. I mean, even if I did call him to ask, do you think he would admit to me if he knew he had anything wrong with him?? HELL NO!! So I just want to take care of this on my own. Please, if anyone knows anything about what this could be….

The actual word means a "swelling" or "tenderness" of some sort. What causes the swelling is the problem, and yes, it's connected to various STD's.....most of which can be cured with antibiotics....excepting herpes and HIV. It can also be nothing but a tear or "injury" caused by roughness.

What do you tell your doctor? The TRUTH. That you had unprotected anal sex, now you've found out that the guy MIGHT have some kind of STD, and have yourself tested for anything and everything. There's nothing else you can do but be honest. If you're not honest, how is he/she supposed to know what to look for or test for?

Whatever happened, it has to be taken care of.....and that starts with honesty with the doctor. Otherwise, there's no point in seeing a doctor. Actually, whatever this guy has or doesn't have.....he hasn't seen a doctor, and he's self diagnosing.....not too smart.

Proctitis is a general term to discribe symptoms involving the rectum/anus. It's causes are as varied as the symptoms ( infection, injury, medications, trauma, etc ). Since you've already made a Dr's appt it's best to be honest and get your anseres from the medical professional. There will be an exam and depending on the findings will determine what tests need to be performed. You will more than likely be checked for HPV ( human paplioma virus ), condyloma ( genital warts that can be spead to the anus )as well as HIV and the other more known STI's. Hopefully what you are experiencing can be treated and cause you no further problems. Who knows, this could be small fissures or hemorroids ( both can itch terribly ) which are not infectional at all. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
