best tool for shaving?

Hi,
I'm in the market for a new shaver; I don't shave completely but pretty much (I leave a strip) and the one I have just isn't cutting it anymore (it's this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000BY85E/qid=1152125428/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-3620146-0853465?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=3760901). I think that's mostly because it's old but it also never really shaved that closely. I was wondering if anyone has something that they can recommend? I'm scared of the ones that rip your hair out (like electric leg shavers) because I think that would be too painful and I don't really have more than $30 to spend but I want something that really takes the hair off, not just cuts it down a lot.
Any suggestions?

I don't have any suggestions, but I hope someone else does...I always end up with shave bumps, so when I'm with a guy, I get self-conscious that he'll think I have herpes or something XD

IMO, making sure you always have a new razor will result in the closest shave, whether it's on your legs, underarms or genitals.

I've used both expensive electric & manual razors, and now I just use a disposable so that I'm ensured a good close shave every time. I use it a couple of times and toss it.

If you don't want to shave often, though, then get waxed. It only hurts when it's done every couple of weeks or so.

Remember, guys get razor bumps, too. They know what they are.

If you really wanna get rid of the hair...waxing is your best solution. But, if that seems too painful or expensive for you, just buy a new good razor. I find that men's razors work the best. And I would NOT recommend a disposable razor. If you have sensitive skin they can be horrible, trust me I know from experience. Also, sitting in a warm bath for 30 minutes prior to shaving makes a difference. I read that once in a Cosmopolitan magazine, and it works great for me. I will let my skin soak for a while, lather on some shaving gel (I use the stuff specificially for sensitive skin), then shave with a good razor.
Hope that helps!

I know exactly how you feel. I used to get razor bumps too, and it is embarassing. You can't help feel embarassed right! But, you can help to make it a bit better. Having a warm bath before shaving will reduce the irritation. Also, have you ever heard of "Bikini Zone"? I live in Canada, so I'm not too sure where it is sold, but you should check it out. Basically it is an ointment that you rub on your bikini area, just make sure not to put it inside your vagina it is only meant for the outside skin. It works great!!!! My friend bought it and I told her there was no way it would work....she tried it and the results were great. So, now it is my new best friend. Don't get me wrong, I still get some bumps, but it has made a huge difference.

You have heard of disposables for SENSITIVE skin, haven't you? They work as well as the most expensive razor. And as far as I know...most people would consider the skin on their genitals to be sensitive.

the skin on your genitals is sensitive.....of course. I would not recommend, personally, ANY disposable razor. Even ones for sensitive skin....they aren't the best. If they work for you that's great. You're lucky, but my skin is ultra sensitive, I can't even use them on my legs or underarms. A good razor on the other hand I can. I was just letting her know that if she wants to be extra safe, buy a more expensive razor. Usually the expensive razors cost more for a reason, I find the disposables are cheap because they don't work the greatest. Thats in my opinion....

That's not what I've been told.

A razor blade is a razor blade. But of course, you can pay as much as you want for a fancy razor itself, but essentially you're paying for the LOOK, not function. They all work exactly the same way. According to my dermatolgist, anyway.

He recommended that I use disposables because I have very sensitive skin, too. They are always sharp, clean and sanitary since you only use them once or twice before throwing them away.

For someone on a budget, as the OP is, they're the way to go, IMO.

I have been shaving completely for years. When you first begin make sure you trim as short as possible, use a good shaving gel or lotion and a fresh razor (I like disposables, but I pay for the 'better' ones). I like being in a steamy shower or bath to get my skin ready. I always found electric razors pulled the hair more so then the disposables.

I think you have been misinformed. But if disposables work for you, thats lucky. She can try a disposable, hopefully it works for her because the price is good, but if not I gave her some other suggestions. Look it up online, if you want. There have been studies. Hope this helps you out OP.
-------------------------------
Generally speaking, the more blades the better. The top razor for both men and women was the triple-blade SCHICK Xtreme III, while all the single-blade razors rated below average. The main advantages of more than one blade seem to be better manoeuvrability and a closer shave. Women added that razors with more blades glided more easily over skin, needed fewer passes, caused fewer nicks and needed less cleaning.

· Price is a pretty good indicator of what people liked best — generally, the more you pay, the better the shave.
