Brokeback Mountain?

The awards show coming up tonight has got me to thinking...

How many of the guys out there (boardies, spouses, boyfriends) are just dying to see a movie about a couple of gay cowboys (sheepherders, actually)?

Look, I am not at all homophobic - some of my best friends including a brother and two brothers-in-law are gay - but I have a difficult time understanding how this movie can be getting such incredible ratings when I just don't imagine that guys are lining up at theaters to see it.

Your thoughts? Is it all just Hollywood hype, or what?

I haven't seen it yet, just previews and short clips. I hear the storyline and acting are very good though.

Hello everyone, I'm impressed with the open-mindedness that I have read about Brokeback Mountain. Being a lesbian, I feel very comfortable in being amongst y'all. I haven't seen the movie, because for one, it would do nothing for me. I would prefer to see two women falling in love.

I love my gay brothers, but I'm just not interested in a portrayal of two gay males falling in love. I have gay male friends and they rave about it. I've been invited, but I've sweetly asked them for a raincheck.

Thanks for letting me express my opinion.

Hugs,

Sebastian

I was wondering has it actually opened in the rest of the country? If it did, how much did it make opening weekend? I know this will be a highly unpopular way of looking at this, but I am from the Southwest, and every cowboy I have ever known wouldn't be caught dead at this movie (or having it in their house)~ they are all definately (known from personal experiences) very heterosexual!!

I'm from Texas, myself, and I don't personally know of any males here who are planning to see it. LOL!

And from what I've read, the film has only grossed 32 million at this point. But of course, it didn't cost that much to make either.

Well, I saw the movie today and thought I would give my personal review.

The acting was excellent. Heath Ledger nailed his character and should be in the running for an Oscar. Jake Gyllenhall was also very good in his role. They really laid it on the line for their characters.

The cinematography was beautiful and the story was compelling.

My only complaint was the pace of the story. It was soooooooooo slow. I realize that that was likely a directoral decision to demonstrate the years dragging by for the characters and the monotony of their individual lives but please....a little goes a long way.

Overall rating out of 10....a 9.

DW and I have no interest in seeing this movie-even when it comes out on video (FYI-We rarely go to movies in the theaters-frankly takes too much time and trouble with our busy schedules).

Yes, well, my DH felt the same way you and your wife do.....which is why I ended up seeing it with a friend.

Frankly none of my male freinds want to see it. And most of DW's female friends also feel that way.

My friend and I made note of the audience and were surprised at the number of elderly couples and women there. There were no males alone that we saw.

It was a good movie, though, just a love story, and I recommend it if you don't have any objections to the subject matter.
