Brokeback Mountain?

The awards show coming up tonight has got me to thinking...
How many of the guys out there (boardies, spouses, boyfriends) are just dying to see a movie about a couple of gay cowboys (sheepherders, actually)?
Look, I am not at all homophobic - some of my best friends including a brother and two brothers-in-law are gay - but I have a difficult time understanding how this movie can be getting such incredible ratings when I just don't imagine that guys are lining up at theaters to see it.
Your thoughts? Is it all just Hollywood hype, or what?

Hello everyone, I'm impressed with the open-mindedness that I have read about Brokeback Mountain. Being a lesbian, I feel very comfortable in being amongst y'all. I haven't seen the movie, because for one, it would do nothing for me. I would prefer to see two women falling in love.
I love my gay brothers, but I'm just not interested in a portrayal of two gay males falling in love. I have gay male friends and they rave about it. I've been invited, but I've sweetly asked them for a raincheck.
Thanks for letting me express my opinion.

I'm from Texas, myself, and I don't personally know of any males here who are planning to see it. LOL!
And from what I've read, the film has only grossed 32 million at this point. But of course, it didn't cost that much to make either.
Thank you for your comment, but please direct them to the one that started this particular thread.

Well, I saw the movie today and thought I would give my personal review.
The acting was excellent. Heath Ledger nailed his character and should be in the running for an Oscar. Jake Gyllenhall was also very good in his role. They really laid it on the line for their characters.
The cinematography was beautiful and the story was compelling.
My only complaint was the pace of the story. It was soooooooooo slow. I realize that that was likely a directoral decision to demonstrate the years dragging by for the characters and the monotony of their individual lives but please....a little goes a long way.
Overall rating out of 10....a 9.

My friend and I made note of the audience and were surprised at the number of elderly couples and women there. There were no males alone that we saw.
It was a good movie, though, just a love story, and I recommend it if you don't have any objections to the subject matter.
